Hall of Famer Kundla dies at 101

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Before Phil Jackson and Pat Riley, before Gregg Popovich and Larry Brown, even before Red Auerbach, there was John Kundla.

Kundla, the Hall of Fame coach who led the Minneapolis Lakers to five NBA championships, died Sunday. He was 101.

Son Tom Kundla said his father died at an assisted living facility in Northeast Minneapolis that he called home for years.

Cavaliers All-Star Irving requests trade

CLEVELAND (AP) Kyrie Irving wants the stage for himself.

Cleveland's All-Star point guard has asked the Cavaliers to trade him, two people familiar with the situation told the Associated Press on Friday. Irving made the request last week to owner Dan Gilbert, said the people who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team is not commenting on the star's demands.

Wizards extend Wall for 4 years, $170M

WASHINGTON (AP) All-Star point guard John Wall and the Washington Wizards have agreed to a $170 million, four-year contract extension that will start with the 2019 season, two people with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Friday night.

The people confirmed the terms of the agreement to the AP on condition of anonymity because the Wizards have not officially announced the deal.

Cavs to promote Altman to full-time GM

CLEVELAND (AP) Koby Altman's next move with the Cavaliers will be personal.

Altman, who has been serving as Cleveland's interim general manager during a strange summer of activity, will be named the team's full-time GM, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Friday. The deal is being finalized and Altman's promotion is expected to be announced in "the next several days," said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the talks.

Gasol agrees to 3-year deal with Spurs

A person with knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press that Pau Gasol has agreed to terms on a three-year contract with the San Antonio Spurs.

The 7-foot Spaniard and the Spurs came to agreement on Friday on a deal that is partially guaranteed for the third season. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team has not made an official announcement.

Zanik, Morway join Jazz front office

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) A person with knowledge of the situation says the Utah Jazz have reached agreements with Justin Zanik and David Morway to join the front office.

Zanik returns to the Jazz after serving as assistant general manager from 2012-16, the person told The Associated Press on Friday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the decisions had not been formally announced.

Grizzlies sign former Oregon F Brooks

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) The Memphis Grizzlies have signed former Oregon forward Dillon Brooks, a second-round pick in last month's NBA draft.

Cavs, ex-MVP Rose discussing 1-year deal

CLEVELAND (AP) The Cavaliers could be adding another former MVP to their roster.

Looking to close the gap on the champion Golden State Warriors, Cleveland is in contract talks with free agent guard Derrick Rose, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on Thursday. Rose, whose career has been sidetracked by injuries, could sign a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum, according to the person, who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the talks.

Haslem returning to Heat for 15th season

MIAMI (AP) Udonis Haslem believes he can still play, and the Miami Heat apparently agree.

The three-time NBA champion has signed a one-year, $2.3 million deal to remain with the Heat for what will be his 15th season. Haslem was already the longest-tenured player in Heat history, with all of his NBA seasons coming for his hometown team.
